A relocation of a family home over 585 miles from the very South of England to the very Highlands of Scotland to embark on a dream of discovering and photographing new landscapes and wildlife during retirement. A successful land purchase overlooking the coastline and straddling a natural woodland boundary created the perfect nestling spot to realise this lifelong ambition.

The studio was engaged to help assist in this lifechanging transition and design a new home that fulfilled the requirements of absorbing mother nature's breath taking and dominant views around, minimal house maintenance, light touches on the land and the use of local sustainable materials and craftsmanship.

From inception to detailed design the studio helped build a brief and inhabitation narrative that responded directly to the sites context, negotiated the Highlands Planning and Building Regulatory systems and formed a successful team for project delivery.

" The design is relatively unusual in that in doesn’t quite tie in with the more traditional properties in the area. It is however very much a response to the context of the site. The proposed house will provide an interesting addition to the area, adding variety to the streetscape and will add to the mix of housing within the wider development. "
